What can the iron fence teach me about boundaries?
It might be a slight deterrent for would-be thieves
It might establish territory
It might provide a border for inclusion
or mark where another should be invited
through an opened gate
But so much can seep through the iron fence
creeping myrtle, climbing ivy, roses
Rabbits, squirrels sense this fence
not as a boundary at all
nor does the wind
What can the wind teach me about movement?
that it comes with playfulness,
tickling my cheeks with loose hair
or with energy swelling into a tempest
Wind moves with freedom,
sliding through, over, around
fenced man-made boundaries
The wind teaches we are always in motion,
even when it appears we are blocked
by impenetrable boundaries
yet we can unfold toward the wind with wonder
as it touches our separate journeys
in our spirits’ migration toward peace
We recently stayed at the Capital Hill Mansion B&B (photo above) while
visiting my daughter in Denver, CO. It is a charming place
in a lovely walkable neighborhood and the breakfasts are oh so tasty.
I like the pensive feel to this poem. It reminds me to slow down and be mindful of my environment.

Sounds lovely. A poet always finds something to ponder. Now I am pondering too.

Thank you, LuAnne, for the beautiful poem. I love the verses about the wind as it is such a magical meteorological occurrence, traveling around the world, and bringing the weather change; sunshine or rain. The hotel is impressive and your kind review should bring a few more customers!
