Oh, Well

I no longer pray
I read poems and
listen to Fleetwood Mac’s “Oh, Well”

I no longer pray
I lie in the hammock
watching the undersides of the leaves

I no longer pray
I write short poems
make abstract-ish paintings, cook soup

I no longer pray
I sit with my old kitty
letting her purrs strengthen my aging bones

I no longer pray
I wipe down the counters
do loads of laundry, water the plants

I no longer pray
I check in with my sister
widowed a year, listen to her stories

On second thought
maybe this is how I pray
oh, well

Can’t help about the shape I’m in
I can’t sing, I ain’t pretty and my legs are thin
But don’t ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to
Oh, well

Now when I talked to God I knew he’d understand
He said, “Stick by my side and I’ll be your guiding hand
but don’t ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to.”
Oh, well
Written by Peter Green, performed by Fleetwood Mac

    1. Thanks, Sherri. I have read that the vibrations in a kitty’s purr actually help strengthen bones. That’s good news for me since I have two cats and osteoporosis. Thanks for stopping by.
