On a softened evening
she returned from work
snow and stillness
her lonely companions

From the kitchen table
amid egg smudged plate and
coffee smeared cup
her pen and journal
called to her:
write with me,
recreate your day,

artist yourself,

An unconsciousness poem
that had simmered all day
was ready for escape
to fancy itself
onto paper

*Recreate: 1) form anew in the imagination; recollect and re-form in the mind; 2) take recreation in

  1. This embodies/articulates the creative/re-creative experience beautifully. I sometimes know that what I’m writing has been “simmering, waiting for escape” … reading this I’m wondering if maybe everything I write is a re-create (thus release) of some simmering feelings/thoughts … ?? Thank you!

    1. I know what you mean, Jazz. Sometimes a poem just explodes fully formed like Athena from Zeus’s skull. But mostly it sits and composts for a while then is tilled and fertilizes until it becomes a poem. Interesting process I have not seen in other activities. Thanks for stopping by.
