For the Time Being

queue

For the time being
practice being time
live the moment you find you’re in
as thoroughly as possible

You might be in a mundane Monday
unclogging the kitchen sink
that’s a good time to practice
embracing unpleasant moments

And if you feel you’re wasting time
in a queue at the DMV
notice the moment’s usefulness –
“Wow! Time for me to breathe.”

Then instead of killing time
for the time being
you find that you are practicing
making time alive

Special thanks to a Daily Dharma article in tricycle by Eihei Dogen Zenji called, 13th Century Zen Master Dogen on Being Time, for inspiration for this poem.

Note for my readers:  I’ve been away for some time now; I am glad to be back.
