Taking a break from work
I watch a gathering of crows
in the oak outside my window
They fly together in unison
caw to the passing clouds,
jockey for best position
on the oak’s bare branches
Then one by one they fly away
their caucus must be over
as is my break from work

Oh, I love this, so much. You’ve really captured the personalities and gathering of crows. Clever wordplay with the title, too – a murder of crows often reminds me of a political debate 🙂

Thank you for your comment. That title came to me at the very last moment. Their gathering did sound like a lively political debate. 🙂

You are so kind! BTW, I shared your poem, The Architect, last week at my writer’s group. It was a great opening to the group and was very well received. Thanks!

Nice play of words. It is indeed fascinating to see so many of them, or any bird for that matter.

Yes, it was odd to see so many in one place at this time of year when temps are hovering around zero. Maybe they were holding a conference to nominate a warmer place for gathering! 🙂

I always wonder what the crows are thinking. Nice to connect with nature on your break, even if just for a short time.
