Gates

I’ve heard good fences make good neighbors
and I suspect this might be true.

You can gather all you love safely inside your fence
but from time to time
you just might be ready
to clear away some clutter.

You can also keep all that disturbs you safely outside your fence
but from time to time
you just might be ready
to entertain a stranger.

And from time to time
what you once rejected
might return  refashioned.
Or maybe, just maybe it is you who transformed
to see the old familiar through newly focused eyes.

So if you’re a good neighbor inside a good fence
remember to leave your gate open a bit
or at least leave it unlocked.
