It is curious how easily
I get lost in the jumble of tasks,
five errands to run during rush hour traffic
somewhere to be at a particular time
but blocked by others doing the same
While plunked down in stillness when I want to keep moving
I find it’s a grand time to remind myself
to notice the layers and layers of now
like the lawns flocked with shadows,
clouds covering clouds,
and maybe the crescendo of katydid calls
all harmonizing in this complex moment
with my heartbeat and my breath
until the light turns green
It’s a game I play, the space-between-space game,
brief gifts throughout the day
to see deities around me
in the real time I’m actually living
Amazing poem. Found a follower.

lovely imagery. I love the photo, the shadows and color are super! I have played your space-between-game myself…its a wonderful way to use “given” time. 🙂

thanks to YOU! That photo is remarkable, such nice shadows and alternate reality sort of…I love that kind of thing. I have a game called the “Where Am I? Game.” Re the moment of awakening under covers and not sure if I was at home or on a trip somewhere.

I’ll be sure to play the space between game the next time I’m stuck in traffic. A lovely poem, the perfect image and a wonderful message – thank you, LuAnne.

Whoa! “layers and layers of now…” That is such an astute observation. That never would have hit me…

There is a line in LuAnne’s poem that made me suck in my breath and hold it for a few seconds. “…the layers and layers of now…” I think I’ve just realized that I miss most of the world every day…

Found your poem on Calen’s blog and was also entranced by the ‘layers and layers of now’. I love the concept of a space-between-space game. I must join in!

Please do. There are several “triggers” I try to use to remember to practice mindfulness. Being stuck in traffic is one. It turns an irritating situation into a spiritual one. I also try to use going through a door as a trigger. Maybe I should write a poem about that too. 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by. It is always good to have new visitors.

A pleasure! Good tips – got any for doing the household chores?

Sure! You can use any chore as a reminder to take a mindfulness break. So folding towels can be a time when I decide to notice the feel of the towels, their warmth, the sounds around me and take a break from worrying about bills, or a comment a coworker made last week that hurt my feelings… Short repetitive tasks seem to work best for me to pull me into the now for a spell. I bet you could play the space-between-space game at times when you are motorcycling. 🙂

Hmmm, being unused to the handling as well as roads is keeping me plenty mindful. Although you’ve given me an idea to play with to turn the in the moment anxiety into in the moment relaxation. I did a piece of research on people’s ‘daydreams’ and I found that they were mostly that kind of inner talk you’ve mentioned there. I do try to focus on the process of cleansing as a path to joy when I’m doing something I don’t really want to do. Smells of freshly laundered linen – Mmmmmh

I am thoroughly enjoying the theme and vibe throughout your blog and poetry. I can feel the wonder in the everyday here, and the ‘layers and layers of now’ which we all inhabit. Wonderful poetry. 🙂

Love this version too! Waiting in traffic served as practice, readying you for 2020’s challenge. (And now we have ample time to reflect and practice, no green lights insisting times-up.)
