A Cookie Cooling Ceremony

It’s a fluid movement
like bowing with mindful reverence – cookie on spatula

under
lift
turn
lower
slide out

No need to rush or transfer two at a time
Feel the gentle weight of each soft cookie

Hold it briefly while hot
Release it securely to cool

Bless  the process
Savor the blessing

This poem was inspired by a late-night cookie baking session and the memory of a visit to Seoul, Korea where I had the opportunity to watch the fluid movements of women performing Ochetuji each morning at the Buddhist temple across the street from my hotel.

  1. “Bless the process
Savor the blessing” and enjoy a gooey cookie 🙂 I love this poem. You have elevated cooking making to an art in your poem and you make a great point about our lives, there’s “No need to rush or transfer two at a time”
we should stop and “Feel the gentle weight of each soft cookie” 🙂
