Empty House

This micropoem was inspired by Jane Hirshfield‘s collection of short verse called Fifteen Pebbles from her book, Come, Thief.

Empty House

Without the voices of the quick filling up the spaces
Voices of the dead open doors to rooms of memories

  1. This might not be precisely what the poem is about, but I do wonder sometimes about what will happen when my children are both old enough to leave home. I think a whole lot of memories will suddenly come out of the woodwork.

    1. Actually, I did write the poem remembering those quiet nostalgic days after both my girls left home. I was just playing with the words “quick” and “dead”. So I am glad that the poem touched you at that level as well. Thanks for visiting.
